Four Thumbs Up for "Bella"

Looking for a good movie to see? We saw the movie Bella in a special screening earlier this year and highly commend it to you. Since it's only a limited release, you may have to look hard to find a theatre, but the extra effort will be well worth your while.

In the Sacramento area, Bella is currently showing only at the Century 14 Theatre in Roseville. (Due to some intense elements in the film, we recommend a sitter for the kids.)

If you were wondering where David got the extra two thumbs for the rating on the movie, it was definitely from me!

I loved this movie. And I look forward to seeing it again, EVEN THOUGH it made me cry -- and some of you know that most movies that do that to me get automatically dumped in the "dumb movie" category.

Anyway, I thought this movie gave a very convicting picture of love -- one that we all ought to see, pray about, and consider in our own lives.

If I try to talk my husband into taking me to a movie he's going to ask, "well, what's it about?" (i.e.: it better be darn entertaining to be worth my time and $20.)

got a quick synopsis?

Eduardo Verastegui (CHASING PAPI) stars as a former pro soccer player whose decision to work in his brother's restaurant in New York City has more implications than he could have imagined. There he meets Nina (Tammy Blanchard, THE GOOD SHEPHERD), a waitress who has just learned that she is pregnant, and this knowledge draws the pair together in unexpected ways. This crowd-pleasing debut from Mexican director Alejandro Monteverde picked up the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival in 2006.

sharon -- if your hubby balks, just remind him that if he had taken you to the free advance showing at the capitol earlier this spring, he could have saved the $20.

definitely sounds like a film we'd like!

well, we finally made it out to Bella last night. there should be a disclaimer on the film for hormonal women to be prepared for the water-works. all I had on me was my sleeves.

congrats, sharon! but re the suggested disclaimer -- wasn't my lovely wife's comment "I loved this movie... EVEN THOUGH it made me cry" (emphasis added) sufficient warning?
