Backup Your Computer Online

Say a thief breaks into your house and rips off all of your computer gear. Or your house burns down, you escape, but your computer doesn't. Would you lose any files you'd like to see again?

Rodney recently recommended Mozy.com to me. It's an online backup site where you can securely store up to 2 GB worth of your files for free. If you refer some friends (like I'm trying to do right now) you can earn additional free back-up space. If 2 GB sounds too small to you, you could fork out $4.95/month for Mozy Unlimited.

I'm giving the free version of Mozy a try right now, and so far I'm extremely impressed with how easy it is to use. Check it out - I think you'll be impressed too.

Don't want to even imagine how long it would take to upload 2 Gb with dial-up...a 'mere' 2 Mb is bad enough!

Well then that's just one more reason you should cave in and get DSL... or move to California where DSL is cheaper!

I've been exploring a few other options and Mozy really does seem to be the one that "just works". I am looking forward to seeing what Google comes up with though.

I have been using the paid version for half a week. It already came to good use when my computer shut down when the power went out this last Saturday. This ended up corrupting some files. (I know, I know...battery back-up!).

I am currently uploading over 38GB which will probably take 10 days. But once it's uploaded, it will only backup new and changed files. Mozy also keeps a 30 Day archive of changed or deleted files.

It's worth the $4.95 per month, especially since it's unlimited storage.
